10 Tips on How to Start a Blog and Make Money in 2022
Before you set up your website, one of the things you need to do is to know what to blog about. If you haven’t made up your mind yet, don’t worry. I talked about how to find a profitable blog niche in my previous blog post.
Also, don’t forget that part of starting a blogging business is to have goals. This way, you will be able to have the proper mindset to keep the blog running, and a business plan as to where your blog is headed 3 to 5 years from now. For this, I recommend that you go over my post where I talked about goal setting for bloggers in 2022. I’m sure you will find a lot of helpful tips there.
Okay, so let’s get started.
1. Buy a domain name
The domain name is your blog name and URL. For example, the domain name of my blog is heycrystallace.com I got it from godaddy.com You can get your domain name from other companies like:
In fact, you can get your domain name for as low as $9.99/year. Remember, the domain name is renewed annually. So make sure you mark your calendars so you won’t forget.
When choosing a domain name, go for the one that’s short and easy to remember. If you can’t decide but want to get started right away, using your name is also a good option. Also, you can make use of words that are relevant to your niche. For example, if you want to start a food blog, use the word “food” in the domain name. For mom bloggers, try using “mamma”, “mom” “mommy”, etc. This will also help your blog appear in the Google search results.
2. Find a Reliable Web Hosting Provider
Your web host is going to be the home of your blog. Therefore, you need to find a web hosting service that is reliable and will not slow down your website no matter what.

3. Install WordPress.org
Now that your domain name and web hosting is all set, it’s time for the fun part, installing WordPress. By default, WordPress will give you any of their “Twenty Series” themes. 4. Identify your target audience and their needs
When you start a blog in 2022, your mission is to provide quality and valuable content to your readers. Knowing your target audience will help you determine what type of content they need from you.
5. Don’t invest too much money to get started
Unlike other businesses, starting a blog in 2022 doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, you only need three things to officially get started:
- Domain name
- Web hosting
- Legal pages

Managing a blog takes a lot of time, especially when you have a job on the side. But aside from creating content that’s being searched on Google, you also need to interact with your existing audience. They could be the ones following you on social media or commenting on your blog posts. Interacting with your audience is fundamental if you want to run a blogging business. Besides, the content you make is for them.
9. Don’t overthink
Unfortunately, I see a lot of aspiring bloggers that are not spending their time wisely. Some will spend weeks, even months trying to come up with the coolest domain name. Or worse, they would spend months or years learning about WordPress development, when installing a free theme will do.
My point is, focus your time and energy on things that are far more important. That is, doing keyword research, content mapping, and creating your products and services. Other stuff can wait.
10. Be yourself
Lastly, be yourself. Your personality will be the wow factor your blog needs to be successful. Share the journey with your audience. People love to see what’s going on behind-the-scenes.
Moreover, try your best to be genuine. You will receive a lot of hate sooner or later. But at the end of the day, what matters are your goals and living the life you want.
