10 Law School Graduation Gifts for the Law School Graduate In Your Life

Last updated June 2021 by Crystallace

It’s officially law school graduation season and someone close to you is graduating from law school. That’s why you’re reading this, right? I mean you are so proud of that special someone and you want to get them a meaningful gift, but you don’t know what to get them. Luckily for you, I have been a law school graduate so I have the 4-1-1 on what makes the best law school graduation gifts.

Here are 12 Law School Graduation Gifts Your Law School Grad Will Love

1. Cash

Yes, cash. Sometimes people are reluctant to give cash as gifts because they may think that it doesn’t come off as a personal gift or that the recipient may feel like there wasn’t a lot of thought put into the gift. But trust me on this, your grad will appreciate cash so much.

There are so many random expenses associated with graduation. For example, making sure that you look your best that day is top priority. You grad may want to professionally get everything done like hair, makeup, nails, and the tab can add up. Not to mention their outfit and party planning.

Giving cash can help them patch up their bank account and remember it’s not over yet. They still have to take the bar exam. So they most likely won’t be working for the next 2-3 months. Cash will be appreciated. I promise you.

2. Gift Card

Gift Cards are the best law school graduation gifts to me because they take the “is this how I should best use this money” question out of the equation. The gift giver has already told me where to spend the money and in some instances that keeps me from short-changing myself.

Where you can get them gift cards to….

Department stores for work or interview clothes. Amazon for everything. Starbucks for coffee during bar prep. Local restaurants for food during bar prep because they won’t have time to prepare meals. Gas so they can get to bar prep class. Visa so they can pay bills.

3. Portfolio

A nice leather portfolio would benefit any professional but especially a lawyer. From client meetings to firm meetings to court hearings, it never hurts to take notes in style.

4. Office Decor

So that they can spruce up their new workspace. An office décor set will have them hitting the ground running with organization and style.  From wall art to office supplies, you can leave them with a gift to remember you by when the work days get tough.

5. Meal Prep Plan

Literally all you can do during bar prep is study and sleep. For those 10 weeks that you spend studying, every moment that you’re spending not studying taunts you. Even when you’re doing something essential like going to the grocery store and preparing a meal for yourself.

Unfortunately, bar prep can make you fall into some bad eating and snacking habits.Take some of the load off of your graduate by getting them a subscription to a meal prep or delivery service.

6. Gym Groupon

Gym Groupon or Class Pass. It’s so important to stay physically active during bar prep but it can be so hard to keep it up. Make the struggle a little easier on your graduate by getting them a Groupon or Class pass so that they can do something physically active and relieve some of the stress. This can look like a kickboxing class or a barre class.

7. Gift Certificate for a Massage

A gift certificate to a spa can be a “break glass in case of emergency” that they can redeem during bar prep or after the bar exam. Sitting up and studying every day for hours for weeks will leave your neck, shoulders, and back in need of some tlc.

8. Business Card Holder

Professionals still use business cards and I don’t think traditional business cards are every going away. Law school grads cannot wait ’til they get their new business cards saying “Attorney-at-law.” They are going to want to keep their business cards clean and crispy for when they whip them out and start giving them away like candy.

Business card holders range from economical to luxury. If your grad is into designer things, this is the perfect time to splurge.

9. Fragrance

If your law school grad is a fragrance wearer this can be a very thoughtful gift. With sales and gift sets peaking during graduation season, choosing this gift option will get you a lot of bang for your buck.

10. Briefcase or Work Tote

A briefcase or work tote is a must have for any lawyer. To help prepare for day to day work life. Your graduate will need it. Make sure it can hold a laptop, portfolio, and a case file.

11. Watch

For lawyers, time is money and nothing says time is money better than a nice watch. A watch is an essential business attire staple. The good thing about watches is like gift cards they have a vast price range. Whatever your budget is, you can surely find something in your graduate’s style.

12. Writing Instrument

For a lawyer, receiving a pen is one of the most sentimental law school graduation gifts. In fact, many people start collecting pens once they become lawyers. Some people reserve their use for special occasions like signing their first court filing or signing their first contract. Even if they never use them at all, every lawyer that I know that has received a pen as a gift, cherishes them as keepsakes. When I graduated from law school I received a fountain Montblanc pen. Here is one Montblanc that most people love.

Always remember that it’s the thought that counts. Even if you can’t afford to get them much, sending a card with a heartfelt note letting them know how proud you are of them can go a long way. Law school grads just want to know that their hard work did not go unnoticed.
