Hey Girl!
Let’s face it: Self care, as it’s usually marketed, can get extremely time-consuming, and fitting a full-blown self care routine every day into your already busy schedule may not always be an option.
Something that is incredibly important to consider when creating your routine is that self care is more than just spas, facials, and expensive creams. As a matter of fact, looking after ourselves is more about nourishing yourself from the inside out with small actions we implement into our daily lives that, when added up, can create a huge impact on the way we feel about ourselves.
If you’re currently looking for ways to implement self care into your existing schedule, here are a few super easy actions you can easily include in your routine every single day!
How To Create a Lazy Self Care Routine
1. Develop a morning routine that fuels up your day
Mornings have a way of determining how the rest of the day will go, so it’s incredibly important to make them count. Even if the rest of your self care routine is somewhat lazy, I recommend making a little effort here!
Instead of spending an hour scrolling through social media before you even get up, try using that time to fuel up your day. This can be by cooking yourself a healthy breakfast, creating a list of goals for the day, sipping a cup of tea while you read a chapter of a book, or taking a relaxing shower.
Whatever activities you place in your morning routine, make sure they’re things you actually enjoy doing in order to inspire you to get out of bed.
2. Exercise
Moving your body is incredibly important for both your physical and mental wellbeing. Even if it’s just a 20-minute yoga session after work, going for a short walk, or learning a few salsa moves from a Youtube video, getting your heart pumping for at least a little bit is essential to keep you focused and energized throughout the week.
As a tip, make sure you see exercise as something you do for your wellbeing rather than a punishment. Working out should be all about making your body stronger, not something you do in order to fit into today’s (impossible) beauty standards. Think of exercise as something you do because you love your body and want to keep it as healthy as possible, and that will make all the difference!
3. Practice positive self-talk throughout the day
Compliment yourself, and do it often. Positive self-talk can have a huge effect on your self-esteem, and complimenting yourself regularly can really propel your day in a more positive direction.
While it may feel silly at first, making a conscious choice to practice positivity in the way you speak or think about yourself will ultimately turn into a habit that kicks negative self-thoughts away.
If you constantly find yourself speaking negatively to or about yourself, a great way to change those thoughts into positive ones is to ask yourself: Would I speak that way to a friend? If the answer is no, adjust the dialogue.
4. Journal
Journaling is one of the easiest and most powerful acts of self care out there. Not only is writing about your day a super relaxing activity to try before going to bed, but it’s also a wonderful way to make better sense of your feelings and, as a result, help you manage them in a more effective way.
Contrary to what you may be thinking right now, journaling doesn’t have to be a time-consuming activity. In fact, giving yourself 5 to 10 minutes every day to simply write non-stop and jot down whatever comes to mind is more than enough!
5. Carry a notebook everywhere
Much like journaling, carrying a notebook everywhere you go can have a huge impact on the way you see the world.
Life can get incredibly hectic and our thoughts can easily get put on the back burner. Carrying a notebook everywhere will give you plenty of excuses to stop and write just about anything that comes to mind, be it a new business idea that popped up on your way to work, the inspiration you felt when you looked at that cute cafe, or just simple thoughts that jump to mind throughout the day.
I hope this lazy self care routine gave you some pointers on how to craft a perfect routine that works around your schedule. While this is not a proper routine per se, these actions are incredibly powerful. If you implement them into your existing routine, you’ll notice a world of difference in the way you go about your day!
