Hey Girl!
So let’s have some girl talk for a minute about why I needed to tell you about these period hacks.
I have been having my period since I was 10 years old. Yes 10! It came while I was having the time of my life on a Disney Cruise.
I hardly felt it when it came and I hardly felt every period after for the next 20 years. (Writing this is making me feel really old)
Then I hit 30 and as my law school professor would say when she was describing how lawsuits begin, “BOOM! Something happened”. (guess you had to be there)
My periods got worse and worse every year it seemed, and I was so not used to it. Like I never had a cramp before 30 and now I was one phone call away from dialing 911.
They still hurt like hell and the bleeding is heavier too but, I have now found better ways to deal with them. So I wanted to share these
12 Period Hacks and Self Care Tips
with you guys in case you’re taking a monthly trip to hell like me.
Be sure to Pin 📌 this post for later.
1. Invest in a heating pad
I have this exact one from Amazon and let me tell you it has been a comforter. What I like most about this one is that it has an automatic shut off because it will put you to sleep.
You can also spray it with water for some moist heat therapy.
2. Take meds
I don’t know but I felt like I was being a baby if I took pain meds from cramps but let me tell you I don’t feel that way anymore. Now I take Advil like clock work so that I stay ahead of the pain.
You don’t get a cookie for suffering so take the meds.
Period Hacks When It Comes to Hygiene
3. Shower twice a day
I know that you may think you don’t need to this but it is best to err on the side of cleanliness. You may not be able to smell yourself but maybe others can.
4. Invest in period panties
Period panties have been a complete and total game changer for me. I go on and on about them in this blog post.
Trust me, it’s a must read my 6th most popular blog post.
BTW, are you following me on socials? Let’s keep in touch! I’m on Pinterest, IG, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok
5. Try to only use on tampon a day
Overuse of tampons can throw off your vagina’s ph balance and leave you susceptible to bacterial infections. If you do use one be sure to change it after 4-8 hours.
6. Change your napkin every 4-6 hours
Anything longer than this puts you at risk of having an odor issue.
7. Rephresh Gel
I use this on the last day of my period to help restore my ph and avoid any lingering odors.
8. Keep a toiletry bag
I keep a toiletry bag full of hygiene products on me during that time of the month. You can check out what I carry in mine in this video.
Period Hacks for Your Comfort
9. Get some rest
This may be a tough one especially if you have to work but don’t underestimate the power of rest. Your body is working overtime so make sure you let it rest.
10. Eat comfort foods
You may have cravings for not-so-healthy foods like fried foods or sweets. Don’t torture yourself if it’s something you really want. It’s ok to indulge a little.
11. Do Yoga
Stretching, Breathing, and Peace makes the world of a difference during your period. For me, it makes the pain easier to deal with and my body more relaxed. If you are scared of leaking during yoga, invest in Boy Shorts period panties.
12. Drink Tea
Hot tea causes a soothing, relaxing effect throughout the body. This can be just the thing you need.
I hope these things help you out like they did me. My periods are still coming strong but these period hacks make things a bit easier to deal with.
Which one of these period hacks are you going to try this month? Let me know in the comments.
