Hey Girl!

Today, I wanted to share more with you about one of money making side hustles and that’s freelance writing. When I tell people that I make extra money freelance writing, one of the first questions I get is What is Freelance Writing?

So naturally I was inspired to write this blog post about “What is freelance writing?” Because in reality, it’s a lot of things so let’s break it down.

What is Freelance Writing? A Great Side Hustle

Many people are searching for ways to make money online and I am no different. When I relaunched my blog, my main focus was to take my passion for writing and turn it into a money making side hustle. But sometimes, it can be overwhelming when you’re faced with all the options. Beware of the scams and money pits out there.

Freelancing is an opportunity for you to build your own business, doing work you love, without the constraints and complications of being employed by someone else or starting a more traditional business.

Speaking from experience it is a great side hustle to have.

What is freelance writing? An opportunity for everyone

You may be one of these people who think, “I’m just average and I won’t make any money doing that”, or “I don’t have any skills to offer to anyone” but this is where you’d be wrong.

Freelancing is an opportunity for everyone, regardless of skill level or experience. It’s all about your ability to research and learn and how much work you’re willing to put in.

Freelancing is a great way to begin building a financial cushion for yourself, that may turn into something larger than you can currently visualize.

I freelance write in my capacity as a lawyer. There are legal blogs out there and I write and sell content for extra cash. It allows me to make money in my comfort zone.

There is something out there that you are an expert in. Think about it, what is it that thing that no one can tell you about because know it back and forth?

Motherhood? Couponing? Throwing a birthday party?

Everyone has got something.

What is Freelance Writing

What is Freelance Writing? Freedom

Freelancing means that you work for yourself instead of someone else, and as a freelancer, YOU get to choose when and where you work. Someone hires you to do a job for them. It’s not your responsibility or duty; it’s simply an agreement between two parties involved in completing a task or project.

Freelancers typically work out of their home or wherever they can set up shop with their computer/laptop and phone/tablet, but there are also many who freelance from public places such as cafes and libraries.

What is Freelance writing? Content Creation

Content Creation are new buzz words these days. But people have been creating content since the internet existed. This blog post is content creation. Freelance writing is content creation for others.

But Freelance work is available in almost every field – accounting, technical support/graphics design/social media, photography, sales and marketing…and the list goes on. Freelancing is all about offering your expertise to others who need it most. You can still make money while learning the ropes!

BTW, are you following me on socials? Let’s keep in touch! I’m on Pinterest, IG, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok

For example, if you’re a writer, you can find people who need help with their content writing projects or blog posts and you can write for them. If you have design skills, there are plenty of opportunities out there such as creating logos or graphic designs for other businesses or even just one-time jobs where someone needs something designed quickly (such as flyers announcing an event).

The main point is that when it comes to freelancing, there are thousands of opportunities out there for anyone willing to put in some effort and learn how to market themselves and get clients.

If you want more than just a part-time job, freelancing can be a way to earn a full-time living.   You can make a lot of money doing what you love without having to answer to anyone.

What is freelance writing? Flexible work

Freelancing writing has many benefits that will have an impact on your life in more ways than one. Here’s a list of benefits:

You have the ability to choose when and where you work

Even if it’s just for a few hours every day, part-time, or full-time from home, you’ll never have to face rush-hour traffic again! You also won’t be tied down to someone else’s schedule anymore – set your own deadlines and expectations for yourself how often/much you want (or don’t) want to work.

You’ll no longer feel like there’s never enough time to do everything you want.

You’ll have more flexibility in your life with the ability to adjust schedules as needed.

The MONEY!

You set your own prices so the more skilled you become, you can start to charge higher prices and really build a good cushion for yourself. This will allow you to scale back clients and free up more of your time if you so desire.

Flexibility.

Your hours are yours to choose. You can pick up extra work whenever you feel like doing so or not at all if you’re not interested in working that day. This is perfect for people who need/want to spend more time with their family or just take some time off without having to worry about losing income.

You get to Build your Portfolio!

Freelancing gives you the opportunity to build up a portfolio of accomplishments and experience – even if it’s just small tasks at this point, as long as it’s something that shows what you can do.

Having an extensive portfolio will look great when looking for new clients, applying for jobs or trying to get funding from investors if you decide to start a business. So start building yours today by offering services through freelance websites or by using social media to market yourself.

What is freelance writing? A great way to make money from the comfort of home…or Starbucks

Freelancing is a great way to make money from the comfort of home. If you have skills/experience that is wanted by others, start building your freelance portfolio now – even if it’s something small like offering graphic design services, or writing/editing articles or email inbox management…anything will do. And once you feel like you’ve got a good start, you can branch out to other things.

There are so many opportunities and so much support for freelancing these days – it’s never been easier to get started.

How to get started Freelance Writing:

1. Pick a niche.

You want to pick a niche that you are both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about. This is important because you want the writing to come naturally to you. You also want to avoid writer’s block as much as possible. I wrote a blog post how to pick a niche here.

2. Set up a blog/website.

You need to appear as a professional and have a place for people to go so that they can check out your work. You can also set up accounts on Fiverr and Upwork.

3. Have a portfolio.

I can promise you that people will want to see sample of your work before they pay for your services. Have some samples of your writing, ready to go.

4. Market Yourself.

There are ton of “for hire” Facebook Groups where you can advertise your content and services. It is where I market my services and I purchase services.

5. Have a contract.

You want to be sure not to do any business without having the proper contracts in place. As a lawyer and a freelancer, I know how messy disputes can get when doing freelance work. That’s why I wrote a freelance contract specifically for freelancers like you and me.

So in conclusion what is freelance writing? Extra cash that is waiting on you!
