Here is why I started a blog and you should too.
I have always liked to share my thoughts and opinions with others. I am a Millennial and in effect a social media guinea pig. I’ve experienced the birth and rise of the Titans. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube. These platforms allow people all over the world to share their worlds with others. It seems like an over-saturation of personalities, right? It left me thinking, why would anyone want to read what I have to say? I’m not vegan or a new mom and I don’t travel to exotic places. I turned those negatives into positives and took a page out of Kanye’s book.
“Everything I’m not, makes me everything I am.” -Ye
If you are thinking the same thing and questioning yourself let me be the first to remind you that there is no one on this earth like you. No one has your story but someone may share a part of it and that shared experience can inspire someone’s life.
“If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.”- Booker T. Washington
I grew up on the South Side of Chicago like Michelle Obama.
I was an only child to a single mom like Kanye West.
I went to the same high school as Mae Jemison.
I gave birth at 14 like Oprah.
I am a first generation high school graduate and I went on to be a first generation lawyer.
Even though I share a similar experience with people whose stories are well known. In between those lines there is so much that makes my story unique. I hope that one day someone will read my story and say “I was…like Crystal.” That is why I started a blog. To show the many dimensions that make us human.
As the descendants of slaves, I also find it my duty to help my community. I believe I have found my role by helping us close the wealth gap. I wanted a way to share my knowledge and encourage others. That too, is why I blog.
If you’re wondering about why you should start a blog.Think about all the people who lives have changed because of social media. You never know where your blog might take you. Also, you will become a better writer and expert on whatever it is you choose to blog about.
You will get to track your progress of your love for your hobby, experience, or just life itself.
“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.”- Booker T. Washington
People want to get to know you and they will connect with you. I touched on this before but you never know where that shared connection can lead you or someone else.
And last but not least you could make some shmoney, Okurrrt? So even though I’m a Millennial I had no idea about the profitability of blogging. Some people blog for the sole reason of making money and so they blog about how to make money with no substance. Somehow, amongst all the fakes out there I was able to find Lady Boss Blogger. I signed up for the course and learned a strategic approach on how to monetize my content to support my blog. That was important to me because with me being a new grad and actually loving what I do, I would hate to have to quit blogging because it was costing me too much money. Lady Boss Blogger has been everything!
I hope that whatever your inspiration may be that you don’t shy away from it. Whether it is sharing your story, hobby, or expertise, blogging is simple and inexpensive so what are you waiting for? There is such a huge reward to gain from such a minimal commitment. Don’t hide from the world because we need to see you!
